Changes we've made
There has been discussion about the use of "Nordic folk" for our name. We've taken this discussion seriously and made changes in our approach to address this. An overview of what we will do differently:
Changes
1. Clearer about the genres
Our initiative has always been open to anyone who makes or feels connected to Nordic folk music. We realize this term is too broad for some, and too narrow for others. We will be clearer about which (sub)genres we cover. We will no longer present the collective as being only for Nordic folk music, but for Nordic folk and related genres. This includes Nordic ritual folk, pagan folk and dark folk. We'll be clear about this across all our channels.
2. Building the collective carefully
The idea behind Nordic Folk Collective was to make listeners aware of AI-generated music, and to be a community where artists can connect and stand together against AI-generated music. For now, we will focus on the awareness campaign, and build the framework for the collective in the meantime. We want to make sure this is done properly, that all Nordic folk and related artists are welcome, and that all of their music is highlighted.
3. Evaluate
Feedback is always welcome. We will evaluate the initiative every month and we stay in touch with the community.
Why no new name
We took our time to consider a new name, and came up with several possibilities. As communicated before, we initially chose "Nordic Folk Collective" because we felt it's the most recognizable for the people we're trying to reach, and for us it was the closest term for what this initiative is about.
We've carefully considered the other options, but still feel that Nordic Folk Collective is the best fit. With the changes we've made, we believe we can do right by the name, and by everyone who feels connected to this genre.
