Changes we've made
There has been discussion about the use of "Nordic folk" for our name. We've taken this discussion seriously and made changes in our approach. An overview:
Changes
1. Clearer about the genres
We see "Nordic folk" as an umbrella term and as a scene that has grown organically, through the music itself and the community around it. It's a label many artists and listeners recognize and use, even if there isn't one clear definition for it.
From now on, we will no longer present the collective as being only for Nordic folk music, but for the Nordic folk scene and related genres. The collective is open to anyone who makes or feels connected to this music.
2. Building the collective carefully
For now, we'll focus on the awareness campaign, and build the framework for the collective in the meantime. We want to make sure all artists in the Nordic folk scene and related genres are welcome, and that all of their music is highlighted.
3. Evaluate
Feedback is always welcome. We'll evaluate the initiative every month and stay in touch with the community.
Why no new name
We took the time to consider a new name and came up with several possibilities. After careful consideration, we still feel "Nordic Folk Collective" is the best fit. It's the most recognizable for the people we're trying to reach, and for us the closest term for what this initiative is about. With the changes we've made, we believe we can do right by the name, and by everyone who feels connected to this scene.
